I would like to introduce my Canadian friend, josh. He is an freshman in Grenfell Memorial University, and his major is science. He is a very introverted person, and he is ashamed to meet people. So when I first met him, I thought I wouldn’t be his real friend. But I talked to him constantly, and finally we became friends.

Me and Yujin met him in downtown party, named Cbnuit. We took the same shuttle bus from Grenfell University  to downtown. So I asked him how do I  and Yujin got to the downtown Cbnuit. And then, he gave me a map through smartphone. I was so grateful to him that me and Yujin suggested we wanted to hang out with together. Thankfully, he accepted our request and watched the downtown party together. While watching campfire, we entered Tim hortons because it was cold outside. We chatted over doughnuts and coffee. Then I found he interested in philosophy. At that time, I thought he had a distinct value and liked to stay at home. So we had a time looking around the town and each other went to residence.

He is amazing person. Because he can understand us even if I and Yujin speak without following the grammar of English. And he speaks slowly when he talks to us. When we look as if we don’t understand what he says, he says it again. Therefore, I appreciate him because I am not good at English. But he became my friend.

I have been to Gros Morne Fieldtrip on September 15th, 2018. It was a field trip conducted by Grenfell Memorial University, for only 30 dollars, including lunch and transportation. It was hard because i had to go to the school by 7 in the morning. I was an owl person so it was hard to get up early in the morning.

But after arriving at Gros Morne, i felt very good. The wide range of hiking trails and the trees were so beautiful. The air was also fresh, so i loved smelling the grass. It was hiking, but I felt it was walking in a flat field. Also I saw so many villagers. Whenever they met me, they smiled brightly. Their smiles made me happy.

As I walked, I smelled the grass and saw the blue sky. The blue sky made my mind comfortable. The weather was so nice that day. I simply walked through Gros Morne and took a group picture. I also took pictures with cute babies, dogs. It was amazing that there were many dogs on the trails. It was impressive to see owners and dogs hiking together.

I think I could feel the nature of Canada better while hiking. I also feel better about Newfoundland. I felt food that I became a Cadadian for a while through hiking. Because canadians go hiking a lot. I am planning to hike hard for the rest of my life in Canada.. To be a true Canadian. Cheer up for my Canada’s life.

 

I feel like Candian University is more free than my home country. The exciting is, For example, there is no residence like chalet in my home country of university. Students living in chalet seem to be free to spend their time such as having a party every Friday night. Also every students can cook in their residence like new residence, chalet, old residence. In my home country, most dormitories have no kitchen. So students have to buy some food or eat out. I feel this is the biggest difference between Canadian and Korean universities.

And the interesting thing is that there is a bar in the Candian universty. It is interesting that the same place is a cafeteria by day and a pub at night. So every weekend or Friday night, students drink and dance with joy in a bar. I have been to bar in Grenfell Campus Meomorial University. It was a new experience for me to have a party in school. In my home country, there is only bar outside university, not inside. Students can only drink outside of school at bars in my home country.

The most interesting thing about attending the University of Canada for a month was the library. The library in Memorial University has a guinea pig. And at lunch time, you can have bread or cookies for free in library. Also I can rent board games and make badges. It is amazing and enviable that there are many events for students in the library. I want to make the library a comfortable place like Memorial University in my school.

 

 

 

Hello, my name is Jeesoo LEE, and I am from Ilsan, South Korea. I have lived only in Ilsan. But my university is in Incheon, so it is hard for me to go university from my home because of transportation. It takes 4 hours to go back and forth by bus and subway. It takes a long time but I like Ilsan with my friends and family. Suddenly, I wanted to go somewhere for my new experience during university class.

So I decided to apply for a exchange student. There were many universities from around the world where I could go to exchange students, but I chose canada’s memorial Grenfell Campus. Because I heard Newfoundland had fresh air and good environment. Before coming to here, I went to Toronto, Montreal, Quebec. Toronto is a big city, so there are many things to see. But for me, I liked Montreal than Toronto. Because I felt like Montreal was a real Canada. Also, I was so surprised that Montreal had so many french signs. Quebec was so beautiful city, especially old Quebec town! Old quebec is so popular in Korea, because of  Korean drama named dokabie. Like I saw on TV, Quebec was peaceful and the people were very nice.

After the trip, I arrived at Cornerbrook at dawn. So my first impression of Cornerbrook was that it was very cold…  but I was surprised to see the stars and the moon so well. Memories of the day are vivid so far that I have been taking a night walk in Cornerbrook to see the stars and the moon every day. I have enjoyed Cornerbrook so far!
